Saturday - Game 3 - Grantham Park

We left the game reserve around 7.30 and made our way to our next match - had a bit of traffic so didn't arrive until 9.45.  Match kicked off at 10.15

Coach Report

B team - D 15-15
A marginally changed side were unrecognisable from the side that played Langa.  The forwards had the edge in the tight but still weren't dynamic enough in the loose.  Alex W and Tom J linked well and the ball was moved wide on several occasions.  Tries from Zain, Tom and George F saw a final score of 15-15.  Tackling was better and the boys should take confidence from this performance.

A team - L 31-14
We spent most of the first half in the GP final third but were unable to convert many of our chances through a combo of solid defence and boys not running straight.  A lapse of concentration just before half time saw the score 7-7.  GP scored 2 quick tries again through lack of focus.  A mix up in the backs saw the score go to 26-7 but simple rugby, running hard, retaining the ball saw Harrison go over for his 2nd try.  GP scored a fairy soft try before the end.
Generally the tackling from 1st phase was very good.  George Hawkins made some excellent hits.  Lawrence G had a very good game at fly half.  Scrum was solid but we are still missing the spark in the loose.  Zain went off with a broken arm - we wish him well.

Dads Report

B Team - a much improved outing this time.  Forward play more solid and were securing and winning good ball.  Still need to be up with the game at times especially in the loose.  Backs were running well and showed a large improvement in moving the ball aside.  The scoreline was fair and well fought for after giving away 10 unanswered points.  Best from the Bs thus far - lets hope there is more to come.

A Team - tough game in the heat against a big team.  Camped in opposition territory for most of the half with nothing to show for the effort.  A solid defence answering well.  Our first converted try gave promise of good things to come but was short lived as the scores were levelled following a simple error. Simple mistakes and not making the tackle count saw the A game slide away.  A late try was too little too late.  Some real positives from the game and lessons to be learned before the next outing.

Mums Report

Cracking game.  Huge pitch and sweltering heat.  Both As and Bs showed great character and worked very hard in tough conditions.

Poor Zain, had been playing, I thought, exceptionally well - making some excellent runs and tackles.  He was incredibly brave - the medical staff at the game strapped him up and went with him and his parents to the local hospital.  He had an operation on his arm last night and will need further surgery in about a month's time.  Hopefully he will be joining us again tomorrow.  Get well soon Zain xxxx
